A Family Ride to Remember

August 2025 - Mona, Amit, and their two sons spent a sunny Saturday riding the Erie Canal trail from Fairport to Pittsford and back, with plenty of sights, good food, and a stop for gelato along the way.

On a warm Saturday in August, a family of four from Victor set out for an afternoon adventure with Scenic Spin. Mona, Amit, and their two teenage sons met us at Center Park in Perinton at 11am, ready for a four hour ride. Their adventure began on the quiet and shady Trolley Trail. After about a mile, the trail led them across the pedestrian bridge near CrossFit Fairport, where they joined the Erie Canal path heading west.

Before rolling out, we gave them a quick overview of the Radrunner e-bikes, pointing out the throttle, pedal assist, and comfort features. The family had tried e-bikes before while on vacation in Park City, Utah, so they were already pros. Within minutes, they were cruising with confidence.

The path carried them into the village of Fairport, where they slowed down to enjoy the sights along the canal. From there, they continued west to Schoen Place in Pittsford, parking the bikes for lunch at the historic Village Coal Tower Restaurant, the perfect midway stop to relax and refuel.

After lunch, they explored farther down the canal, reaching Lock 33 Canal Park in Brighton before turning back east for the ride home.

The return trip took them once again through Pittsford and Bushnell’s Basin, before a must-stop treat in Fairport at Royal Café for gelato, conveniently located right along the path. It was a sweet reward before the final stretch.

And of course, the ride ended with a little friendly competition. The two teenage boys could not resist sprinting ahead, racing each other back to Center Park, while Mona and Amit cruised safely behind, soaking in the last of the day’s sunshine.

By 3pm, they were back where they started. Four hours, countless smiles, and one great family memory along the Erie Canal.
